Waves Of You

They crash over me when I least expect it,

When the water has been so calm and still.

Not a ripple of you in my thoughts for days,

Not a whisper of you in the wind; until

The weight of you suddenly hits me.

A full force of grief knocks me for six.

I’m reminded of all the love I have for you

And see all the problems we couldn’t fix.

Because although I kid myself and think

That you’ve been erased from my life completely,

In these moments I know without a doubt

You’re a part of my heartbroken history.
