This Time

This time, when you left, my world remained in tact

Nothing crumbled

Nothing broke.

My heart stayed beating

And my lungs kept breathing.

This time life didn’t stop because you walked away

My body didn’t long for you, it didn’t cry out to you.

It simply carried on.

But maybe it’s because, this time, when you came back

You never really came back at all.

You turned up with the idea of you

The gesture of you

A half empty, pointless notion of you.

So, in fact, when you left, there wasn’t really anything to miss

Because this time, when I tried to love you, there was nothing really there to love at all.
